    This is the main beam of a steelyard, a weighing device in which a single weight is moved along a graduated beam in order to balance with the object being weighed, which is hung on hooks at the opposite end of the steelyard. It was used in Beaconsfield, and is thought to have been made by Thomas Beach of Birmingham in the late eighteenth century.
