  • Description
    This signboard belonged to the coachbuilder Edward Cox, from Sonning. It is a large signboard made of wood, painted in green, brown and gold lettering. It is inscribed: 'Estabd. 1866 // Surgit Post Nubila Praelii // Edward Cox // Coachbuilder // Sonning // First and Second Prizes at the Reading Exhibition // For Excellency of Workmanship // Speciality // The Rubber Cushioned Axle.' The latin motto is similar to the motto of the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers of London, which is 'Surgit Post Nubila Phoebus'. The board also shows a depiction of the Arms of Reading.
