    Treen string box probably 19th C. in origin. The lid is turned with grooves and has a hole in the top through which the string would pass.
    This string box is probably 19th century in origin. The 18th and 19th centuries provided a variety of treen string boxes, as letters as well as parcels were tied up with string. The lid of the box is turned with several shallow grooves and has a small hole in the top through which the string would pass.
