  • Label Text
    3. Wooden Seedlip. This example comes from Hurst near Reading in Berkshire and dates from the first half of the twentieth century. It shows the method of construction clearly: the sides were formed from a single thin strip of wood that has been steamed and bent into the required shape. The iron strap across the top is there to give the body some rigidity, especially when it was full of seed. 97/65.
