A rug making kit for making woollen rugs. Bought by the donor's great-grandmother in the 1930s.
A rug making kit for making woollen rugs. It contains various tools and, including a wool gauge, crochet hook, two brass rug-making needles and a variety of wooden pieces. There are two catalogues with it. The kit was bought by the donor's great-grandmother in the 1930s. On her death in 1945 the kit passed to her sister, and then to the donor's mother.

Stewart (JSC’s great grandmother) of the Tiles, Grange Road, South Green, Billericay, Essex c. 1930’s. Mrs Stewart died in 1945 after a V1 accident and the kit passed to her sister and then to JSC’s mother of the above address. // 1–3 Three wooden rug making machines with metal needles. Different sizes. // Length: 23 cm, 24 cm, 27 cm. // 4. Wool gauge: PATON’S RUG WOOL Used for cutting wool into lengths // Length: 20 cm. // 5. Small chisel edged tool with brass ferrule and wooden handle // Length: 15 cm // 6. Plain metal hook (crochet type) set in a wooden handle. // Length: 17 cm // 7&8. Two brass rug making needles with turned wooden handles (see catalogue for description). One has a black handle and one has brown. // Length: 13 cm // 9–11 Three wooden sticks with a row of holes in them. Length: 25 cm, 30 cm, 36 cm // 12–14 Two turned wooden sticks with groove in the end and one plain wooden stick. 19 cm, 18 cm // 15. Flat wooden object with two holes and a groove. // 16–23. Eight various wooden pieces – 8 cm, 6 cm, 2.5 cm.’
