Description
A halter weight used for keeping the loose end of a halter lead taut when tied in the stable. Rumble Collection, Salisbury Farm, Clevedon.
A round wooden halter weight with a smooth hole through the middle. It was used for keeping the loose end of a horse?s halter lead taut when tied in the stable to prevent it getting tangled. The end of the lead is passed through a ring in the manger and the weight is tied to the bottom. This weight is part of the Rumble Collection and probably came from Salisbury Farm in Clevedon, Somerset.

MERL miscellaneous note, Greta Bertram, 25 October 2013 – The objects 92/2–92/68 are part of the Rumble Collection, and were donated to the Museum by Mr Rumble in July 1991. The objects were collected or purchased by Mr Rumble or his father, and most of them came from either Camberley, in Surrey, or Somerset, where Mr Rumble had previously lived. He kept his collection in the shed at the bottom of his garden in Woodley, Berkshire., MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Institute of Agricultural History) – 'Recorder: JMB // Date: 10.9.92 // Description: Round, wooden weight with a smooth hole through the centre. // Dimensions: 8 x 8 cms // Associated information: The rope from the halter would be threaded through the weight when the horse was tied up in the stable while feeding.
