  • Description
    This is a heavy metal stand with a pedestal onto which the boards fit. There are two sizes of board; the wooden boards are covered with felt. The small board has another cover of cotton cloth. There is also an inscription: ' T. BRADFORD AND CO. LTD.// LAUNDRY ENGINEERS// MANCHESTER AND LONDON'. The board was used when ironing shirt sleeves.

She was brought up in the early part of the century by her aunt, Mary Brownson, in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. This is where the sleeve board or press came from.
