    This laundry basket, for domestic use, was made by Mr Sinclair Junior of Lerwick, Shetland Islands, and was collected by the donor in the Orkney Islands. It is a coiled straw basket bound with string, and has a coiled straw lid with a string handle.

    Although the MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Museum of English Rural Life) says that the basket 'came from Vaster in the Orkney Islands' there is no such place - Vatster is in the Shetland Islands. The exisitng information on Adlib said that the basekt was made in Lerwick, Shetland, and found in Orkney., MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Museum of English Rural Life) – 'Standard museum name: LAUNDRY BASKET // Accession number: 97/51 // … // Recorder: JMB // Date: 28.5.98 // Description: Coiled straw basket bound with string. It is wider in the middle than at the top and bottom.
