  • Description
    This is a small, finely made basket with a handle, made from chair seater's cane woven around another material which is possibly bamboo. It was almost certainly imported from the Far East, probably China or Japan.

    Visiting researcher note, Tim Johnson (basketmaker), 20 June 2014 – This basket is likely to be German in origin [previous recorders have identified it as Far Eastern]. This could be confirmed by the German Basket Museums (Deutsches Korbmuseum) in Michelau, near Lichtenfels., MERL Handwritten Accession Form (Museum of English Rural Life) – ‘Recorder: JMB // Date: 19.6.97 // Description: Small finely made basket with a handle. It may be made from fine bamboo wrapped with cane. // Dimensions: Height (total): 25.0 cm // Width: 12.0 cm Height: 10.0 cm // Associated information: This is almost certainly imported from the Far East, China or Japan.’
