Description
Ard (a type of plough) with a sole plate and a curved beam which would be attached to a draught animal. Found at Park House School, Newbury, 1980s.
A small wooden ard (a simple type of plough) with a base sole plate and a curved beam which would be attached to the draught animal. The sole plate is a separate piece of wood from the beam, and another piece of wood forms a coulter. There is an upright pole with a handle for steering. This ard was discovered at Park House School in Newbury in the mid 1980s, but it is unknown how it came to be there.

Archival history
Mr Doug Cook [teacher] who gave the ard to Newbury Museum did not know how it came to be at the school. It came to MERL via Newbury Museum., Described in accession record as an 'Egyptian ard'.
