Hand chain or flexible saw with teeth on each link and eyes at each end for attachment of the handles. '1-C , SAW, 260, T'.
This is a hand chain or flexible saw with teeth on each link and eyes at each end for attachment of the handles. The saw is wound around a wooden block and, together with the handles and a saw-set, is stored in a canvas bag. The inscription on the bag reads, '1-C // SAW // 260 // T'. It belonged to the donor's wife's father or grandfather. This type of saw was used for pruning and for cutting through timber which could not be reached by a conventional saw. The nature of the canvas bag and the inscription suggest that this saw may have been issued by a Government department.
