A glass preserving jar used by the donor's mother in the 1920s for preserving fruit. It has a metal lid and a steel spring clip. It was manufactured by Fowler, Lee and Co. Ltd., a fruit, vegetable and game bottling appliance manufacturing company based in Reading. It has been identified in a Fowler's catalogue as a No. 40 'Fowler's white glass vacuum bottle' with a volume of 2lbs or 2¼ pints, recommended for bottling plums, peaches, pears, tomatoes and vegetables.
