Parting dishes were sent out to the fields, particularly at harvest time, with vegetables on one side, Yorkshire pudding on the other and meat resting on a trivet above, and were also used as a cooking utensil. Lavinia Smith recalls seeing them carried around as late as 1925, but it is not known how she acquired this parting dish.

The next in siz [sic] was given to me by Mrs Albert Stone who had had it from Mrs Betteridge who had got it from her mother Mrs West who for many years lived at the Abbey Manor Farm.'
