  • Physical description
1 pair of leggings: leather; metal; brass; good condition
  • Label Text
Two pairs of leggings, 1920s-1930s. Leather leggings like the pairs shown here were worn by many farmers and gamekeepers during the interwar period. A variation on gaiters, they were worn over boots and usually in conjunction with breeches. After the Second World War wellington boots became far more common and accessories like these were no longer necessary. The brown pair possibly comes from Essex where accessories like this were known as 'buskins'. The black pair was purchased second hand in Reading. Both pairs were probably once worn on farms.
