A graining roller, used for making a wood grain and knot effect on painted wood. The roller consists of fifteen notched metal plates on a spindle, attached to turned wooden handle with a brass ferrule. The roller belonged to the donor's uncle, John Hillier, who was a master painter and decorator in Reading in the 1930s.
