  • Description
    This is a cream skimmer, which is a butter making tool also known as a 'fleeter' and is used for removing the layer of cream which forms on milk in the setting dish. This came to the museum as part of Rev. Sharp collection.

  • Archival history
    The Sharp Collection of agricultural and dairying equipment was compiled by Reverend C. J. Sharp at Wonersh, Surrey. Reverend Sharp died in 1967 and the Museum acquired the Collection for £60 in 1968., MERL ‘History Artefacts’ cards - ‘SKIMMER metal // PROCESSING Milk // Source Rev Sharp // Notes: Description: A round brass scoop with a plain straight wooden handle which is fixed to the skimmer by means of a brass fixing which is riveted into position. Use: For skimming cream from the milk.’
