This cheese basket, from France, was used for making and marketing cream cheese or ‘coeur de crème’. It is a heart-shaped basket made of white willow skein, with open-work sides and base. It would have been lined with cheesecloth, and the curd pressed in and allowed to drain.

The Ann Mary Pilcher Collection of Victorian Baskets (67/60-94) was collected by Ann Mary Pilcher in 1957-1967, mostly from junk shops and stalls.
