This is a model of a cultivator, which is a farm implement used for disrupting the topsoil ready for seeding. This model was donated by the Agricultural Machinery Department at the University of Reading.

MERL ‘History Artefacts’ form - ‘MERL // Cultivator, model // Cultivating // Description: Framework and tines- painted blue. Three wheels- spokes and hub, red, rims black, Points, painted silver. Driver’s seat- painted red. A three wheeled cultivator with a triangle framework- at the apex of which is the small front wheel and attachment for traction. The base of the triangle is partly formed by the main axle, at the ends of which are the two main wheels, and along which the tines are arranged. The tines are set in two rows- three in front, four behind and have chisel points. There is a adjusting bar to regulate the teeth position, at the right hand side of the driver’s seat.’
