  • Archival history
MERL ‘Handwritten catalogue’ form – ‘BONNETS // Personal–Clothing–Headgear // 65/40 // 65/41 // ... // Two old bonnets. Both were found in trunk belonging to her [donor's] Great Aunt who died about 1940 when she was in her early 60s. In her young days she had been housekeeper to Lady Florence Duncan of Springfield, Taplow. Mrs. Mercer thinks the larger, plainer, bonnet was probably her great aunt’s and was used as a ‘field’ bonnet. The smaller silk child’s bonnet may have been her great aunt’s daughter’s bonnet. The daughter died when quite young. No information was left with either and these are only conjectures.’
