Ice basket made by Stanley Bird of Great Yarmouth. Used on trawlers for carrying ice to mix in with the fish to keep them fresh.
This ice basket was made by Stanley Bird, a basketmaker of Great Yarmouth, for the Museum. These baskets were used on trawlers for carrying ice to mix in with the fish to keep them fresh. It is a round weight-carrying basket made of round and split cane with two leagues of wire running through the bottom, up the sides and around the two roped handles.

An order of 12 baskets from Stanley Bird (Basketware) Ltd. to Dorothy Wright, care of the Keeper at MERL.
