3. Pig Ringer. This tool worked like a pair of pliers to make a neat hole in the soft tissue between the pig's nostrils so that a ring could then be inserted. The ring discouraged the pig from being too destructive with the 'rootling' or digging action of his snout. By attaching a staff to the ring, the pig could also be led. 61/143.3. Pig Ringer.
