  • Description
    Moulding planes have curved or shaped blades and are used to create mouldings, or profiles, in wood. This moulding plane belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed. The end of this plane is inscribed ‘Gabriel' (manufacturer), 'G. Speer' and 'R. Fryers' (probably previous owners). Christopher Gabriel began working as a planemaker in London in 1770, and the business made planes until the early nineteenth cenutry.
