Moulding planes have curved or shaped blades and are used to create mouldings, or profiles, in wood. This moulding plane belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed. The end of this plane is inscribed ‘Wm. Moss’ (manufacturer). William Moss was a Birmingham plane maker 1775-1843, and the name continued to be used as a brand after the firm was taken over in 1844.
