    Head bells and plume decorations attached to the bridle behind the ears. Lavinia Smith acquired them from Mr Albin Budd, Curry Rivel, Somerset.
    Head bells and a plume were a common form of horse decoration and were attached to the bridle behind the ears. This set consists of two bells, of different sizes, and a horse hair plume dyed red. Lavinia Smith acquired them from Mr Albin Budd of Curry Rivel, Somerset.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Head bells and plume were a common form of horse ornament. They were attached to the strap of the bridle which passes behind the horse’s ears. // The plume was made of horse hair, dyed blue, white and red. // These head bells belonged to Albin Budd of Curry Rivel (Somerset).
