  • Description
This is a measuring hook, for use in forestry. It consists of a wooden handle, and a flat metal blade which curves slightly at the tip where there is a small hook. It was used to poke tape or string under the mid girth of a felled trunk and hooked up over the top, by which the cubic capacity of the wood could be estimated. Nothing is known of its origins or place of use.
