Two shaving razors in a leather case. Made by 'Wolf' a cutlery firm in Sheffield which operated from 1750-1850. They have black ebony handles.
This is a set of two shaving razors in a leather case. They blades are stamped 'Wolf'. which refers to the manufacturers, a cutlery firm in Sheffield which operated from 1750-1850. This sort of set was often given as a presentation at formal events, and the name of the recipient of this set, 'Staniforth', is stamped on the case. The razors have black ebony handles, and the case is split into two sections.
Physical description
2 razors with case and lid: metal; ebony; card; fair condition[cont'd]...blade of smaller razor inscribed 'Wolf', whilst other blade inscribed 'Moore'. This suggests they are manufactured by different firms, although both arrived at Museum in same case. Incidentally, case is faintly embossed with 'Staniforth', name of recipient of razors [it being customary to give set of this kind at formal presentations].

M. Bromehead of Charlbury. The name of the recipient of the razors 'Staniforth' is stamped on the case, for it was customary to give a set of this kind at formal presentations. The blades are stamped 'Wolf', a well known Sheffield cutlery firm of 1750-1850 A.D. // One razor has a blade 5.7 inches long, while the other has a blade 5.2 inches long. The black, ebony handle of the larger one is 6 inches long, and it has two pairs of brass headed rivets passing through it. The handle of the other is 5 inches long. The case of cardboard with a leather imitation surface is made in two sections and measures 7 inches long when closed.'
