Citation in publication [H. J. Massingham, 'Country Relics' (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1939)] – 'But the last object of all, the lace-maker's light, also from Burford, is certainly of cottage origin. It is a large glass globe with a tapering handle of glass likewise, and this is slipped into a plain heavy cylinder of lead with a wide, round base. A candle was stood close up to the globe on its stand in such a position that the light shone upon it and was reflected upon the pillow.' (pp.172-173), MERL list / description [Massingham Collection, October 1989] – 'ACC. NO.: 51/102 // NAME: LACE MAKER'S GLASS // NEG NO.: 35/205[0?] // STORAGE: '
