An awner is a tool for cutting the awns, or ears, of wheat and barley from the plant. This grid type barley awner was used at Heberdens Farm, Idsworth, Hampshire. It is rectangular in shape, with four cuved legs joining the handle to the frame.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Barley Awner // ... Late 19th Century // ... This barley awner, was used at Heberdens Farm, Idsworth, near Horndean, Hants. It stands 15 inches high and is rectangular in shape. It measures 13.5 inches long by 12 inches wide. It has seven blades each set 1.5 inches apart and running parallel to the shorter sides. The four curved legs of the handle are bolted to the frame. These legs join to form an iron spike which was originally embedded in the wooden handle.'
