    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Nothing is known of the origin of this girdle plate. // It consists of a round solid iron plate, 15 inches in diameter, with a fixed, half-hoop handle. The handle has a loose ring round it, with which it was hung over the fire from a pot-hook. The plate measures 8 inches in height to the top of the handle. // See also 51/431.'
