Label Text
This wagon has broad straked wheels. Strakes are curved iron plates nailed directly onto a wheel's rim. They are easy to repair, as each strake can be replaced without taking the wheel apart. They are generally found on older wagons but this one was last used during harvest in 1955.

I have heard that Mr. W. R. Fowler of Town Street Farm, Tirley, near Tewkesbury, is selling up at the end of this month. He has a wagon in good condition which was made for his father about 1878 when he first took over the farm. This wagon has five-inch wheels originally fitted over strakes but I am not sure that tyres have not been fitted at a later date. It was in used this harvest. // Mr. Fowler actually has five wagons on his farm and is willing to present any one of them to the museum...'
