  • Description
    This butter print, with a thistle and leaves design, was used for measuring and marking blocks of butter. It belonged to a relative of the donor, who lived in Inkpen, West Berkshire. It is an 'ejector' type butter print, with a plunger to push out the butter.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This butter print stands 4 inches high and has a diameter of 3 inches. It is a print of the ejector type and consists of a small barrel with a plunger inside. The plunger is carved with an acorn design. The print belonged to a relative of Mr Thorpe, and was in this person's possession for many years. // See 51/1240', MERL ‘History Artefacts’ card – 'Description: A wooden print of the ejector type consisting of a barrel with a plunger inside which is carved with a design of a thistle with a pair of leaves. // Use: For measuring and marking blocks of butter. // History: Owned by a relative of Mr Thorpe for many years.', MERL ‘Associated information’ form – 'Brought to the Museum by Mr R.
