  • Description
Scratch beading plane used for beading door frames. It was donated by a wheelwright from Writtle, Essex.
A beading plane is a type of moulding plane used for carving bead designs into furniture and other wooden surfaces. It has a tooth edged blade which cuts a groove in the surface as the plane is drawn along, and the carpenter would probably have had a set of blades of different sizes for the same tool. This scratch beading plane was used for beading door frames. It was donated by a wheelwright from Writtle, Essex.
