Horse gag or 'farrier's gag', used to keep a horse's mouth open. Thought to date from c. 1850 and used by a Blackpool pit pony keeper.
This is an iron horse gag, also called a 'farrier's gag', a veterinary instrument used when having to check inside a horse's mouth. It is thought to date from c. 1850 and was used by a Blackpool pit pony keeper.
