This candle box came from Cambridge and dates from the first half of the eighteenth century. It was painted dark green over black circa 1880. It belonged to the donor's great grandmother.

Miss Skeen was 84 years old at the time of donation, and the candle box had belonged to her great-grandmother, giving an indication of its age., Letter from donor to MERL - 'It is so constructed to prevent mice or rats from getting at contents.'
