  • Description
This wagon side stay, of the 'H' type, was found in the yard of Fowler and Company, wheelwrights in West Harptree. It possibly came from a Somerset wagon, therefore. Side stays were used to hold the races, or surboards, in place. This type of side stay has the body support and surboard support combined in one piece of ironwork - this is probably more recent than the system whereby a wooden side stay and iron surboard support are used.
