    This is a large, silver plated, domed dish cover used to cover meat and the like as it lay in a dish. It is decorated with incised leaves, elaborate handles and beading round the rim. Nothing is known of its origins.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a large sized dish cover made of silver plate. It was used to cover up meat, etc. as it lay in a dish, such as 51/813L. This cover is elaborately decorated, with a tracery of leaves incised in the plate, an elaborate handle and beading round the rim. It is shaped like an oval dome, 14.75 inches wide, 18.25 inches long and about 9.5 inches to the top of the dome. It has a hall mark on the inside.', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
