    This is a spokeshave, a hand tool used by wheelwrights to shape wheel spokes. This is a small spokeshave, which is made of hard wood. It is stamped 'H. Y. OSBORN SOUTHAMPTON', possibly the manufacturer's name, on one of the handles, and also 'H.J. BOWN'. It was used by the donor's father, who was a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire.
