    This portion of a horse's harness consists of a whippletree and trace chains. A whippletree, sometimes also called an 'equalizer' or 'leader bar', is a tool used to distribute a pulling force evenly. The trace chains connect the whippletree to the horse's collar. It was used with other harness equipment at Houghton Park Farm in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. Attached to accession number 54/700
