  • Description
This marking gauge was used by the donor's grandfather, a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire, and previous to that at Sparkford, Somerset. It consists of a square stick whose bottom sides and edges are lined with brass. The still marking point is adjustable by means of a screw, and slides in a slit in the brass face of the tool. The inner side of the square sliding block is again brass faced. It is stamped 'H. J. Bown'.
