Scale model of a charcoal burners mare made by father of the donor. It was made in 1985 and came into the donor?s possession when his father died in 1990. This type of hand barrow with V-shaped frame would have originally been used to carry branches to a charcoal burners camp.

  • Archival history
Email from Donor to MERL, 12 August 2024 – ‘My father was a practical person who enjoyed being in his workshop in his leisure hours. He decided, I think, after a visit to The Weald & Downland Museum, to make this model. Whatever he did it was done properly otherwise it was not worth doing. After looking at the drawing/instruction he used I can see no faults. My father died about 30 yrs ago.’
