  • Description
    This is an open lot Gypsy wagon, known as a vardo. It is an animal-drawn vehicle equipped as travelling living quarters. The vehicle has a green canvas roof, canvas doors, horse shafts and a external storage box. It is elaborately painted inside and out with horse motifs. Believed to have been built in the 1930s it has a bed for adults, storage cupboards and space for a stove.

    MERL sign - It was given to us by collector and folklorist Jeremy Harte who bought it at a New Age Traveller fair in 2015. He bought it from a Gypsy artist and blacksmith called Jake Bowers. It was built in the 1930s and we are keen to find out more about its early history.
