  • Description
This goffering iron, or 'tally iron', was used for smoothing and crimping cuffs and frills on clothes. It has no stand but ends in a point which should probably be driven into a block of wood so that it could stand upright. It was formerly part of the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum; it was described there as '18th century English' in origin.
