    Heading tool used for making heads on hand-forged nails. Probably used to make square strake nails from a wheelwright, Braishfield, Hampshire.
    This is a heading tool, used for making the heads of hand-forged nails. It was probably used to make square strake nails (strakes are iron 'shoes' used to tyre a wheel, and the strake nails are used to hold them in place). It was used by the donor's father, who was a wheelwright in Braishfield, Hampshire.
