    Two fire dogs from Sussex, dated from the 17th C.. Known variously as 'brand dogs', 'dog irons', 'chenets' or 'creepers'. From the V&A Museum.
    These two fire dogs originally came from Sussex, and date from the 17th century. These are of they type of firedog used for supporting burning logs and embers, known variously as 'brand dogs', 'dog irons', 'chenets' or 'creepers'. They were intended for use with a wall-hearth, as they only have one upright (central hearth dogs are double ended). They were formerly part of the collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
