This is a flat file, a hand woodworking tool used for smoothing wood. It has a square end, which tapers slightly. The handle end is stamped 'KEARNEY & FOOT MADE IN U.S.A'. It was used by the donor's father, who was a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire.
