Compasses used by a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire. Wheelwrights used compasses to measure the hubs of wheels.
These small steel compasses were used by the donor's father, a wheelwright and carpenter in Braishfield, Hampshire. They have two pointed straight arms and a hinge joint, and were used for measuring circles; wheelwrights often used compasses to measure the hubs (centre sections) of wheels.
