  • Description
    This lathe tool is of the gouge type, with a concave blade. It was used by the donor's father, a wheelwright in Ham, Wiltshire. It represents the first tool used by the lathe operator for reducing the revolving surface without tearing it. It was also used to cut grooves. The handle has been remade by the museum.
