  • Description
    This smoothing chisel has a blade which is sharpened on both sides and a wodoen handle which rounded almost to the shape of a skittle. It was used at R. Middleton & Sons' wheelwrights workshop in Eddington, Hungerford.

    MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This lathe tool is a smoothing chisel with blade sharpened on both sides at an acute angle to the shank. One side of the shank is 0.5 inches in length and the other 5.2 inches. The stem which is 1 inch long penetrates the wooden handle and is kept in place by a wooden wedge. The handle which is rounded almost to the shape of a skittle, is 5.8 inches in length. Metal ring is missing. // See also 51/109M.'
