  • Description
This bit for a horse is very simple in design. It consists of a straight iron bar with a hole at each end and an iron ring passing through each hole. Two other rings of the same diameter encircle the bar itself. The bit was used on the farm at Great Cornard in Suffolk.

  • Archival history
Object research project, Further Afield, November 2024 - 'This is a Scourier bit, with 4 rings instead of 2 (also known as a Cornish snaffle). The cheek pieces of the bridle attach to the inner rings and the reins to the outer rings. This results in a severe pulling on the horse’s face when the reins are pulled.'
