This horn beaker belonged to the donor's grandfather, who was a farm labourer at High Roding, Essex. It is made of heavily marked horn, and has a separately fitted base. Inside the beaker the upper layer of the base has curled up slightly and forms a circular ridge. The man who used the beaker started work at the age of eight, scaring rooks at sixpence a week.
